Niskala : Forms of the Unseen

An homage to Bali’s vibrant spirituality and mystique, the “Niskala: Forms of the Unseen” collection was created by French designer Pierre Charrié as output of the 2023 Artist Designer In Residence (ADIR) program initiated by CushCush Gallery in Bali. Niskala takes us on a journey to a mysterious world where mythical creatures seem to incarnate into beautifully handcrafted objects and furniture of collectible design. Conceived as a triptyque in which each object highlights a different Balinese know-how and local material, the collection unfolds like a story in three chapters, introducing different characters. In a vibrant play of contrasts, the collection showcases the versatility of Balinese craftsmanship through the prism of contemporary design.

Fragments: Impressions of Bali

ADIR 2022 (Artist Designer in Residence) – French Design Meets Balinese Craft

This video is published in conjunction with the “Fragments: Impressions of Bali” exhibition by Marta Bakowski and CushCush Gallery at les Ateliers de Paris from 7th to 29th September 2023, held during Paris Design Week The collection was developed as part of the ADIR 2022 (Artist Designer In Residence) programme, 14th August to 18th September 2022. The ADIR program aims at bringing together contemporary French design and the uniqueness and richness of traditional Balinese crafts. As part of this program we invited French designer, Marta Bakowski, to immerse herself in the rich culture of Bali for a month, exploring unique crafts and learning traditional techniques, in direct dialogue with local artisans.
